A heartfelt reflection on Luke 18:1–8, calling us to renew faith through family unity, prayer, and love. ( 15-11-25)

Praise be to Jesus Christ

Once, in a bitter winter, a few ravens flew together over a high, white mountain. The wind pushed them. The cold bit their wings. One grew tired and began to fall behind. The others did not fly away. Two came back and kept near the tired one until it found strength. When one found food, it called the rest. When one needed to rest, the others watched the nest. They survived not because one was stronger, but because they stayed together.

That picture stays with me. Faith needs that kind of togetherness. It is sad to say, but today, as we reflect on today’s Gospel,  we ask the same question Jesus asked long ago. When the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on earth? He did not ask that as a test. He asked it like a father who looks into his empty house and wonders if anyone is left who loves him.

Look at our world. Churches are quiet in places. Bells do not ring as they once did. Young couples choose not to have children. Some homes have no prayer at all. Seminaries have fewer students. Convents and monasteries see empty rooms. Missionaries are fewer. This is not to blame anyone. It is to wake us up.

If faith must live on, it will start again in the family. The family is the first school of faith. A mother or father who prays at the table teaches more than any book. A child who sees parents forgive each other learns what God’s mercy looks like. We must make small things holy again: a short prayer in the morning, a simple blessing at the door, a quick talk about God at night. These are the threads that stitch faith into life.

We must also stand with families who welcome life. Children are hope. Big families are not a burden to be hidden. They are a gift for the Church’s tomorrow. If we can help them with love and practical care, we are not doing a program. We are building the future.

Saints show us how to hold on. Think of Saint Monica who prayed and waited for her son. She kept faith alive in her home. Her patience and tears were like steady knocks at heaven’s door. God answered because she would not give up. That is not a magic trick. It is the simple power of a life that keeps returning to God.

We must also bring faith to young people with real lives and real love. They do not need lectures. They need friends who live what they say. They need priests and sisters who love their work and do not hide from sorrow and joy.

Faith dies slowly when we leave each other alone. Like the ravens in winter, we will not survive alone. When one falls, the others must circle back. When one falters, the others must pray, visit, and help. If we do this, the Son of Man will find faith on earth. He will find homes that speak His name, families that pray, pastors who serve, and young people who dare to hope.

Lord Jesus, keep our homes alive with prayer, and let faith burn brightly in our families until You come.
